Peruppi’s Journal
Peruppi’s Journal

Excerpts from letters to Kironius Mengst written by Peruppi Dentkettle in case of her demise:

  • ..The raid on Avanti’s trading company was a fiasco. Not only was Avanti not present, but we were nearly trapped inside with the dead guards as the sun rose on Riverton. We managed to sneak back to Shara’s warehouse. Hopefully the information we discovered inside will be enough for her so we can get on with meeting Harfur…
  • ..I’m beginning to become concerned about Laucian. He has never been much for conversation, but I had previously thought that was just his elven nature, or concerns about socializing with our new associates. Today he nearly got us all killed when he ran off alone, and then ran back to Shara’s with the Peacekeepers behind him. Were it not for their captain Thames’s apparent desire to help us, we, and Shara along with us, would have been captured or killed. We now seem to have a narrow opportunity to enter the Keefer’s boat and obtain the key requested by Shara. Once we have it, we are to deliver it to Harfur personally…
  • ..were not on the ship this time, however, Keefer and his personal guards, dwarves, no less, proved to be more than a match for us and the man named Moris Shara had sent along to help. Most of us were knocked out of the fight or killed, fortunately the other halfling I mentioned, Aradore, proved to be uncharacteristically useful, and managed to get back to Shara’s in one piece. Laucian had just arisen, so he and Aradore brought back magical wands to revive us. We then managed to finish Keefer off and get the key, although Moris was beyond saving. I ensured that someone carried his body back, and will give Shara some gold to take care of him…
  • ..causing more problems. So far we have had one person leave, and two die, and have barely discovered anything about Lt. Melvar’s whereabouts or condition. We at least have access to Harfur now, but must complete yet another mission for Shara now, since she saved us from dying on Keefer’s ship. To make matters worse, we spent the rest of the day arguing over how to divide the gold and items retrieved from the ship. I suggested pooling our resources, buying many healing potions, and then dividing the rest of the gold up for personal equipment, as well as leaving a share for Moris’s family, but no one appears to have listened to me. The gnome ran off and sold some items on his own, to buy a set of magic bracers for Sachin (perhaps he is looking for a new companion/guard now that Marten is dead?), and Aradore seems intent on purchasing one copy of every weapon and armor known to civilization. Now that Axe-lady has gone, Linus seems to be the only rational person left. I don’t trust the gnome as far as a tallfolk could toss him, and Aradore seems to be a child playing adventurer. To make matters worse, Laucian and Lan, the local, have been constantly bickering over a magical sword originally owned by Avanti’s head guard. They nearly came to blows after Laucian’s mishap with the Peacekeepers, but now that the power of the sword has been revealed by Shara I fear that one or both of them will resort to violence to possess it…
  • ..and now Laucian appears to have deserted. One minute he was there, dividing up supplies, and the next he’s snuck out the rear door and gone into the sewers. Perhaps he’s gone ahead to see Harfur? That might not be a bad idea, but we did promise Shara to repay her, and I can’t back out on that now, as distasteful as her tasks may be…
  • ..I have had quite enough of that Adore fellow. At first I thought he was just incompetent, but now I suspect he may in fact be conscious of his actions. After deciding to split up for our daylight dash across Riverton, he insisted on following me. When I pointed out that we decided to split up for everyone’s safety, he complained that he didn’t know the way back..so I of course allowed him to follow me. Upon returning, however, I instructed him to pay more attention to where we were, in case he needed to travel alone, and he told me he knew the way all along! In fact, he just wanted me around in case we ran into a Peacekeeper so I could “distract him”. I don’t mind helping him out, but I won’t be used as bait! I told him to stay away from me from now on..
  • ..so we killed yet another one of Shara’s rivals. I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll ever get to Harfur or if we’re just being used. At least we’re making a dent in Riverton’s Kisharan population, though I wonder if there’s much point..
  • ..Harfur Stoutfoot! While he does seem to be a little overzealous about his cause, he has done the truly amazing by amassing a sizable rebel band in Riverton. We’ve agreed to help him try to liberate the city, and in the process, prevent Lt. Melvar from being extradicted to Tablenhelm where he will be summarily tortured and executed. I suspect we’ll probably all die in the assault, but at the worst Harfur is prepared to kill Melvar to prevent him from talking, so at least no wonder of your involvement will reach the Kisharans..
